Taft and Glacier Point

I visited Yosemite the past weekend, finally making it to Glacier point and also doing Taft point on the way up.

I say finally as several years ago Megan and I attempted to snowshoe up to there along the glacier point road in the depths of winter with the plan to camp two nights out in the snow but had to turn back after only one night and making 2/3's of the way there due to illness.

The road means there is a nice flat route the entire hike, and the park maintains a cross-country ski track.

Campsite as the sunsets.

This time we took the much easier route of driving up with friends. The SF Astronomy club and the Santa Cruz Astronomy club were doing a astronomy outreach with a bunch of people bringing their telescopes up for the public to use. My friends where bring up their scope to be one of the many there. It was really neat event and I urge y'all to go to one of their events some day. Seeing the milky way is always amazing.

The various members setting up the 'scopes.

On the way up to that we stopped and hiked out to Taft point and boy was that worth it.

My new favorite photo of me.

There were of course the various Birbs and animals to spot.

Amazing Trees and their lichen friends. (I really do like taking pictures of pretty trees.)

And since it's Yosemite more pretty rocks then you can shake a stick at.

Half dome as the sunsets gets very colorful.
Still at taft point but these incredibly eroded and rounded granite rocks at 8000 feet.
